6th generation GLOCK pistol differences

Although the Gen6 GLOCK pistols seem familiar at first glance, they represent the biggest change in GLOCK pistols since the introduction of the first GLOCK 17, breaking the tradition of GLOCK typically making relatively minor changes from generation to generation.

Gen6 GLOCK 17, GLOCK 19, and GLOCK 45 with mounted optics

First up in the Gen6 series are the G17, G19, and G45. Here are some of the differences as compared to Gen5 GLOCK pistols.

Stock differences

  • New palm swell
  • New rounded front panel
  • New hybrid wrap-around RTF6 (Rough Textured Frame 6)
  • Texturing now extends farther up, and has a border
  • New enlarged beavertail
  • +2mm and +4mm backstraps
  • Shorter stock trigger housing pin
  • Reduction in the prominence of the thumb depression
  • New thumb rest (AKA gas pedal)
  • Extended fence around the slide release lever
  • More prominent magazine release button
  • Lower rear trigger guard has a rounded profile
  • Wider Picatinny rail groove
  • Updated trigger housing profile on the new trigger housing
  • Redesigned trigger housing ejector section
  • New channel inside the stock for the rear edge of the connector
  • Wider slide lock lever for easier take-down
  • Upper stock and front cover are the same length across each of these three pistols, allowing interchangeability of barrels
  • Different mag well shape and bottom edge profile

  • Rear sight now has identifying number instead of icon
  • New optics mounting system with three included shock-absorbing polymer mounting adapters instead of metal plates
  • Two sets of mounting holes for different optics
